Travel & Logistics

We’re so excited to see you in Morocco! As part of your travel planning, we recommend that you purchase travel insurance that covers your booking for unforeseen events and interruptions of your trip. We also suggest purchasing refundable fights or flight protection.

Arrival in Marrakech

Be sure to set your clocks—in Marrakech, you’re on Western European Summer Time (WEST) for most of the year, which is +9 hours ahead of Pacific Time, +1 hour ahead of GMT / UTC.

Trip Start

Our adventure begins at 9am on Friday, May 6, 2022, at La Maison Arabe (see Our Accommodations) in Marrakech, Morocco. We recommend arriving a day early in case of travel delays, and the ensure you're at our trip starting point on time.

Arrival Airport

The closest airport is Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK), about a 20-minute drive from the medina and our hotel. Marrakech has frequent daily direct flights from major European hubs including London (3hr 40min), Paris (3hr 15min), Amsterdam (4hr), Frankfurt (3hr 30min) and many others. Currently there are no direct flights from the USA.

Transfer from Airport

We recommend scheduling a car through the hotel no more than 30 days prior to you arrival, or hailing a taxi upon your arrival. Taxis to the medina (15 - 20min) are priced at a fixed rate: US$8 (70 MAD) for standard 'petits taxis' and $17 (150 MAD) for 'grands taxi' minivans. Ride-share services such as Uber and Lyft are currently not available in Marrakech.

Pre-Arrival Accommodations

We stay in unique, in-demand hotels on this trip—rooms go fast and daily rates change frequently. If you plan to arrive in Marrakech prior to the beginning of our journey, we recommend staying at La Maison Arabe (see Our Accommodations), which is also our meeting spot on Day One. Please contact the hotel directly to book, and let them know you will be on a trip with Modern Adventure and would like to extend your stay prior to the trip start. We will try to avoid unnecessary room changes, allowing you to stay in the same room from start to finish—however, please note that this is not always an option and room types vary and are subject to change.

If La Maison Arabe is booked, we also recommend the boutique 72 Riad Living and Dar Kawa hotels, in the old town and within easy walking of shopping, dining and entertainment.

Departure from Fes

Trip End

We end our trip—after nine days of exploration, connection, and delicious food and drink—in Fes, Morocco on Saturday, May 14, 2022.

Departure Information

Due to COVID-19 and the recent border openings in Morocco, the flight patterns have changed over the last few months. Our team at Modern Adventure wants to ensure a smooth departure for all of our guests. We are including a complementary group transfer for those flying out of Casablanca, in addition to our already included group transfer out of Fes. Please see below our options for your departure from Morocco:

  1. Modern Adventure will provide an early morning group transfer from our hotel in Fes to Casablanca (CMN) Airport on Saturday, May 14th, as there are several flights departing out of Casablanca after 12 PM.

  2. Modern Adventure will provide a group transfer to depart to the Fes (FEZ) Airport on Saturday, May 14th for the 5:30AM or 7:30AM flights that are currently scheduled to depart.

  3. You may choose to book your own flight to an international hub in Europe and find alternative flights home. This will require clearing immigration and customs on arrival and re-checking your luggage for your flight onward.

  4. You may choose to take the group transfer from Fes to the Casablanca (CMN) Airport and stay an extra night in Casablanca to rest and relax before your journey home. We are happy to provide hotel recommendations. Please note that any post-trip accommodations and arrangements are your responsibility to book and will be at your expense.

Post-Trip Accommodations

We hope you have the opportunity to extend your stay in Morocco. If so, we recommend staying in Fes at Palais Amani (see Our Accommodations). If you stay in Casablanca we recommend the following hotels: the four Seasons, Le Casablanca and Barcelo Anfa. Please note that any post-trip accommodations are your responsibility to book, and reservations can be made directly by contacting the hotel.

If Palais Amani is full, consider staying at Riad Dar Seffarine or the Karawan Riad, two sophisticated boutique hotels in the heart of Fes.
